Employers are being encouraged to retain apprentices and trainees through an additional completion payment. The main features of the package are: 

• Preference given to businesses which demonstrate a commitment to retain and employ new apprentices when tendering for government funded infrastructure programs;
• An additional $1,800 for employers taking on an eligible out of trade apprentice in the form of a wage subsidy of $150 per week paid in arrears at the 12 week point after recommencement;
• An additional completion payment of $1,000 is payable on successful completion of an eligible apprentice or trainee.
